How to send documents abroad with a traveler
Documents are the most common ‘parcel’ for travelers. An envelope weighs grams, fits in any bag, and delivery takes exactly as long as the flight.
Why a traveler instead of a courier
International courier delivery of documents costs thousands of rubles and takes several days; post takes even longer. With a traveler the documents reach the recipient on the day of arrival, and the price is up to you.
What you can send
- powers of attorney, certificates, statements, notarised papers;
- bank cards and keys;
- original documents for visas, residence permits, studies.
You can send someone else’s passport, but think twice: if it is lost, replacing it takes months. Keep copies of everything.
How to do it safely
- Put the documents in a clear sleeve or an unsealed envelope — the traveler should see what they carry.
- Take a photo of the contents at the handover.
- Agree who meets the traveler and exchange phone numbers of the recipient and the traveler.
- Money in person, no prepayment.
